The Advanced English Courses

All of the advanced English courses follow a similar pattern of interaction; the courses follow different objectives and course content.

Course Description

The advanced English is a course designed to maximize fluency for students who have an intermediate to advanced level of English. The course consists of 90 hours  of class, two hours per day. The course is design to be integrated amongst the four skills as well as dealing with language aspects of English. The course employs a wide variety of communicative activities.

Course objective

Our aim is to promote a relaxed, dynamic and interactive environment in which students will gain confidence and fluency in spoken English. The emphasis on functional English and the use of a variety of materials stimulates a natural accumulation of vocabulary enabling students to deal with real=life situations more comfortably and express themselves with greater ease.

 

Business Course

Course objective

There are two objectives to the Business English Course. The main one is to provide the student with the necessary skills to work in an English-speaking Business environment.
These skills include:

  1. Understanding and analyzing information presented in English.
  2. Presenting and explaining information accurately using English.
  3. Knowledge of essential business English Vocabulary.
  4. The ability to exchange ideas and discuss problems in English.
  5. Communicating in English affectively via the various means of communication typically found in business. (e.g. by telephone, by letter, etc.)
  6. Recognizing the differing social and professional relationships that exist within a business environment, and using the style of English that is appropriate in particular situations.

The second objective of the course is to introduce the students to some of the principles that govern business activity today. This second objective does not imply a comprehensive review of modern business ideas, but a selective overview of those ideas which are useful to understand so as to be able to work effectively within Business.

 

English, Culture & Cinema

This course is designed for students who have an advanced level of English and wish to improve on that standard using different artistic modes of expression as well as learning about different cultures throughout the world.

Course Objective

  1. To make students aware of English through the use of Literature, Film, Music and Drama as artistic forms.
  2. A general introduction to interpretations of Literature, Film, Music and Drama
  3. In the literature/Drama element we hope to improve reading, writing and speaking skills through writing essays, conversation and role-plays.
  4. In the film element listening, writing and speaking skills will all be improved by film appreciation and criticism as an art form.

 

Literature

This class is intended to explore English literature through class discussion and extra activities. The books may be supplemented with a movie or other activities in order to encourage more in depth discussions among classmates about themes and ideas.

Course Objective

  1. To increase reading capability and intake.
  2. To increase vocabulary through reading.
  3. To increase speaking skills through discussions with classmates.

 

Preparation for the Cambridge 1st Certificate Examination

Course Objective

The course equips students with the skills and language ability to be able to tackle each task type with confidence in the five areas: Reading, Writing, Use of English, Speaking and Listening.

 

Preparation for the CAE (Cambridge Advance English)

The certificate in Advanced English (CAE) is an advanced language qualification intended for those who want to use English for professional or study purposes. The emphasis is very much on real-world tasks. CAE is recognized by a majority of British universities for English language entrance requirements.

Course Objective

The course equips students with the skills and language ability to be able to tackle each tasks type with confidence in the five areas: Reading, Writing, Use of English, Speaking, and Listening.

 

Paper Based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

Course Objectives

The fundamental aim of this course is to train students to a level that would enable them to at least attain their target score in the Paper Based TOEFL Examination. Students will be taught the skills specific to succeeding in an examination that tests their receptive language skills – listening, reading and the recognition of correct and incorrect grammatical structures.

 

Internet Based TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)

Course Objectives

The fundamental aim of this course is to train students to a level that would enable them to at least attain their target score in the Internet Based TOEFL Examination. Students will be taught the skills specific to succeeding in an examination that tests their language skills – listening and reading comprehension, and speaking and writing in an academic context.
